Fishing

Posted by Terence Lee in

I was in Miri in mid July for two weeks doing observation flights and also got to know more about Miri.

Miri really is a boring city. The only thing I can think of to spend my free time in the future if I were to be based there is to either fish or golf.

Landed back in Kuching and headed straight to this place called Angler's Friend.. it's located just after MJC on your left at the first set of traffic lights you meet on your way up to Batu Kawa.

The boss Mr. Kong was really friendly and as I was new to fishing, I decided to start fishing with a budget of RM60.

Then I went home , researched a little on famous fishing spots around Kuching, searched for tide timings and weather forecast for the next few days of Kuching.
Finally decided to go Kampung Rambungan, it's on the way to Lundu via the ferry ride. For more information on how to get there, you can kindly call or email me for directions.

Oscar and I woke up early for the day, went to buy live prawn baits and headed up straight to Rambungan.

The ferry ride will cost you RM1 to and fro each. Driving time would be around 1 hour 15 mins .

We arrived there at about 9.20am, High tide was at 9.30am.....
This is the jetty we fished at.... though early on a Friday morning, people were already there ahead of us casting their crab traps and fishing rods......

These are the live prawns we bought...cost us 20 cents each.....
Ok....so the whole bloody morning me and Oscar were standing there like dumb fucks being fooled around by the sea creatures. Our baits kept being eaten and no fish got caught.... Feeling frustrated, an old timer there told us that we should frequently check our baits and be patient ..... coz patience is a virtue they say........

12pm came, instead of the hot sun above us, we were showered with rain all the way til 3.30pm. No catch til then also except I had a fight with a fish during the rain, but fearing my rod would break, I decided to let it eat the fucking bait and leave.......Darn!
4.30pm came by, Oscar finally caught his first. In fact, it's the only type of fish we caught so far. I caught a small fish but decided to give it to the other fisherman as crab bait.

Didn't take much pictures though as my hands were smelling with prawns..........

At the end of the day, me and Oscar had a total catch of 34 fishes of the same kind whereby we split half between us .
I dunno the name of this fish but it definitely tasted great after being deep fried !
I'm definitely going to go fish for a second round if I can find some free time................
Cheers! =D
